By tradition, in the 455 d.c, the bishop of Palermo, S. Mamiliano, in order to escape to the persecutions of Genserico, the Vandals'King, landed on the Island with some companions and lead hermitical life in one cave, then called the Cave of the Saint. Currently Montecristo Island is included in the borders of the National Park of the Tuscany Archipelago. The island has two main routes ,which are preserved for the naturalistic education purpose and it has been instituted a small naturalistic museum, in which are exposed the main species. The Island of Montecristo, since it encloses environment conditions, historical and architectonic emergencies, has become object of a vast amount of studies and researches ,regarding various aspects, and it has receptive structures just to this end.
